Where are Double-Walled Funnels Used?
Food processing and process control facilities use double-walled funnels, or temperature-controlled jacketed conical cones, in applications that require precise temperature control during product transfer. We construct each assembly by nesting two stainless steel funnels together and TIG welding them to create a fully enclosed jacket cavity between the inner and outer cones. They polish the interior surface to a sanitary 32 Ra finish and the exterior surface to a 125 Ra finish, ensuring sanitary-grade finishes on all product-contact surfaces. This assembly maintains precise, controlled temperatures across the product-contact surfaces from inlet to outlet.
How do Double-Walled Funnels Work?
Operators monitor and maintain temperature control by circulating hot water, steam, glycol, or chilled fluid through the jacket cavity formed between the two nested cones. On the heated side, the system keeps viscous, temperature-sensitive products flowing consistently from inlet to outlet, preventing buildup, reducing clogs, and eliminating the need for manual intervention when a funnel does not drain cleanly. On the cold side, circulating chilled fluid maintains precise temperature control during transfer and keeps heat-sensitive products within specification, even in warm plant environments. This design delivers a reliable, sanitary assembly built for continuous use in demanding food processing, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications.

Double walled funnels are utilized by circulating hot water, steam, or thermal fluid through the space between the inner and outer cones, keeping the product-contact surface at a controlled temperature from inlet to outlet. This results in consistent flow rates, fewer clogs, less downtime, and cleaner cycles.
Ra is a measurement of surface roughness. A 32 Ra interior finish is a smooth, sanitary-grade surface that meets contact surface requirements for food and pharmaceutical processing, minimizing product adhesion and makes cleaning easier.
The 125 Ra exterior finish is a standard industrial polish. If your process requires a finer interior finish, such as 15 Ra for pharmaceutical applications, contact us to discuss custom finishing options.
